Director
- Shareholder

John is a Director in Pathstone’s Boston office focused on wealth planning strategies. He is a tax attorney with over 28 years of experience advising complex multi-generational families. Taking a holistic approach to wealth planning, John starts with client balance sheets and cash flow information to project their net worth over time. This enables him to quantify their anticipated legacy and develop plans to meet their goals, whether they are focused on the next generation, the generations after that, philanthropy, or some combination of the above. As a tax attorney, he understands the issues and planning tools, while as a wealth planner, he understands the clients, their objectives, balance sheets, and projections.
John has spent his entire career in the wealth management / financial planning field. Prior to Pathstone, John served as a wealth strategist with Federal Street Advisors, which merged into Pathstone at the end of 2015. He came to Federal Street Advisors in 2009 as part of a team of advisors from another firm which he had been at since 2002. He prepared income tax returns for the first eight years of his career. Four of those years were spent at a Boston area accounting firm where he headed up the firm’s financial planning services. He started his career at GW & Wade in Wellesley, MA, and has taught the Individual Income Tax class for Boston University’s CFP program.
John received his JD from the Boston University School of Law and his LLM from the Graduate Tax Program at the Boston University School of Law. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Michigan, where he completed a four-year program in two years. John lives in southern New Hampshire with his wife and their two daughters. While his days of instructing for the BMW Car Club of America are behind him, he enjoys an occasional track or autocross day, spending time working in the yard and hiking the Granite State.
